Death sentence for Rajesh in Arya murder caseBy Malayala Manorama (English), 03 Jan 2013
(03 Jan 5:07 p.m.) Thiruvananthapuram: Rajesh Kumar, the accused in the rape and murder case of Arya, a native of Vattappara near Thiruvananthapuram, has been awarded death sentence. The Principal Sessions Court delivered the verdict here Thursday charging the auto rickshaw driver from Kattakkada with murder, rape and burglary. The court observed that the case stood out as uncomparable and rarest of rarest incidents.Though the accused had pleaded for leniency in the court since he has his mother, wife and children to be looked afer, the prosecution had argued that considering the case to be rarest of rarest kind he should be definitely awarded death penalty. The incident took place on March 6 last year when Rajesh entered Arya's home while she was alone asking for a screw driver to repair his autorickshaw. Rajesh is then said to have raped and murdered the girl who was a class X student, and fled the scene with her gold chain.
